The only complaint that I have with the Ork codex is that banners are reserved for Nobz and the effect is that they increase the weapon skill.
When I think of a huge horde army, I think of the horizon filled with bodies and banners fluttering in the breeze. Those banners should motivate the mob that is looking at it.
So I decided to make banners for my mobs. I separate each 30 boy mob by the color of their pants, so the banner for each mob is painted accordingly. I am using these banners as bosspoles, which allow me to reroll a failed leadership test. The model for the banners do not serve any other game purpose.
The great thing about Orks is that no matter how terrible my paint job is, it still looks good. My orks are "dirty" and these banners also represent that. They are from the WFB range. I have a fourth one that is not painted yet - still waiting to put together my fourth mob of boyz.
