Special Operations: Killzone Challenge

If you haven’t checked out the rules for Galaxy in Flame’s Special Operations: Killzone then you need to go do it now. Go ahead…. I’ll wait.

The rules and errata can be found here: http://www.thecodexproject.com/killzone/

Killzone corrects the issues with the Battle Missions Kill Team rules by putting restrictions on what you can and cannot bring. It allows you to play skirmish games with the Warhammer 40K rules. The writers did an awesome job writing the rules, but, in my opinion, there are just two rules missing that would make it perfect:

1 – Explicitly state that you can use multiple codexes when creating your list. Think about it, you can have a Chaos cult lead by a terminator and have a couple of guardsmen. How cool would that be?

2 – Split the lists into two types of builds: Specialist or Grunts.

-- Specialist List - you CANNOT have more than two models in your list with the same profile and you cannot have more than 8 models.

-- Grunts List - you can only have a leader with one profile and the rest of your list having no more than two different types of profiles. This list can have no less than 7 models.

The idea is that someone would build both types of lists. Then you can gear missions accordingly - Specialists versus Specialists, Grunts versus Grunts, or Specialists versus Grunts. In a "big" game you would field both lists, but the Grunts would never be allowed secondary objectives or fate cards.

With that said, here is the challenge: create a Specialist and Grunt list using the KZ rules plus the two additional rules above. Be creative, use any range of models you want, and please, please, please kitbash!

Read the rules carefully as there are a lot of restrictions to prevent people from creating rule-bending lists, such as the 40 grot list, the 20 sniper list, or one Venerable Dreadnought list that Kill Team allows.

You can use models you already have completed if you want, but think outside the box. This is your chance to create a small army using models that you wouldn’t normally build.

Post your works in progress and your completed masterpieces in the Modeling section of the Northeast Gamers Hub so we can all see what you are up to.

Hopefully within the next couple of months some motivated gamers will start small campaigns using the Killzone rules. It’s the perfect “short” game that just about anyone can play. How many times have you gone to a group Games Day and played a regular game and had time to spare, but not enough time for another full game? Killzone is perfect because the games take 30-45 minutes to play.

So create your specialists and showcase your team!

  1. Brilliant idea(s).

I've just been working on the formatting for our updated Errata and tinkering a bit more with the Rules. We expect to have these updates out soon, soon, soon.

In the mean time, I cannot wait to see how this comes together.

    Again. Brilliant.
